When Pigasso Met Mootisse

Today I want to share a book with you that has staying power! It's called When Pigasso Met Mootisse by Nina Laden (Chronicle Books, 1998). My husband and I bought this book probably about ten years ago in an effort to find good reading material to entertain our first nephew Nicolas, a toddler at the time. Matt spotted this in the book store, and I remember he was was pretty enthusiastic about it right off the bat. I'll admit that my own first impression of the book was not as positive— I thought it was gimmicky, an assumption made by only looking at the cover. (Silly me! Don't judge a book by the cover!) Once we read the story, we were both really impressed! The story is smartly written, cleverly illustrated, and is just solid, all the way around. We have read this book several times independently, and it was a permanent fixture in our Nicolas entertainment tool-kit for quite a few years. The book still is on our shelf years later, and it's not going anywhere!
