It's not too late to celebrate National Library week! Just look at the wealth of books I have from our local libraries. I only stop picking books when the bag becomes too heavy.
I'm going to say that the above books are all lovely and amazing. But I'm currently over the moon for Chris Van Dusan's Circus Ship. He spoke at an event a few years ago and I was lucky enough to go, have him sign a book, and chat a bit with him about our shared medium - gouache. He is a MASTER of this medium and this book does not disappoint. Not only did some of the spreads make me gasp (really, just gorgeous work - the man loves Maine and will make you swoon too) but it's a strong story very loosely based on history. More lore than fact, but it relates to an area my family has a home in, so I was smitten. It reminded me of the picture books I loved at an older age - where I examined every last detail.
So what are you waiting for? Get thee to the library!!!
