Studio Pic

This week's theme on our blog is to show pictures of where we work. A studio, kitchen table, computer or wherever it is that we sit and create.

I have a little studio in my house. Is very tiny and has just a couple of small narrow windows on one of the walls, so there is really not much light. I wish I had huge windows and lots of natural light coming in but I can't complain really, I love my tiny studio.

This was a room filled with boxes and stuff that didn't have a place in the house. One day I just decided to go for it, and emptied it, painted the walls (and myself a bit, I used a roller for the first time), looked for a board and 4 poles to use as a table, added an old chair I had and ..tada! Suddenly there it was.. my studio :o)

I love going in there everyday, put some music on and start sketching.. creating.. painting. In my opinion, having a place to call our own where we can can really disconnect, helps a lot with the creative process.

So here it is:

You can click all pictures for larger view

left- This photo was taken from the entry door.
right- A shot of the right wall of the studio.

Here is a close up of the table

These pictures are from the wall opposite to my table's wall.
You can see some paintings I've done (I went through a phase
were I would paint one canvas after the other..
now my house is full of them, he, he)
and my very important closet where I keep almost everything. :o)

Hopefully I didn't bore you all with my studio tour, I always love seeing everybody's work spaces so I thought it would be fun to share.

I hope you have your own place to create and have fun, regardless of how small it might be!

Alicia,

Very cool to see your studio. Thanks!

Is it always as clean as it appears? I always picture artists as being surrounded by colourful, creative clutter, snippits of paper and scattered tools of the trade...

Hi Andrea! Thanks :o)

Hee.. hee.. well I have to confess that I did clean up for the pictures. But usually, when I work, is not that bad either. The mess seems to concentrate on the table alone. I guess having such a small studio helps a bit because I try to have a place for everything, if I had more space then you bet that I will have more stuff in it... therefore more mess!

Love the wall color! Pretty! And it is nice to see I am not the only artist to have had many styles before discovering children's illustration.

Thanks Kathy! Well is not always as tidy ;o)

Thank you Kate! Funny, when I bought the paint for the walls I wasn't too sure, I thought a warm yellow would make it look bigger and brighter but I felt that the blue would be calming, so I went for it. I was a bit worried it would look like a hospital room.. he, he but it turned out fine :o)

Love your space, Ali! So fresh, clean and cozy. Beautiful paintings on your back wall there, wonderful colors and textures! And a closet full of supplies, irresistible!

Yes, I love art supplies. Isn't it heaven when you get a brand new set of colored pencils.. with that wonderful smell? Or new set of watercolors? Those things make me so happy :o)

This is a great theme, Ali. It's so fun to see where everyone works. I love the nook you created for yourself. Very pretty and so important to have a place to call your own. I LOVE seeing your sweet doggie too.
