Potluck

Last summer I was kept busy with some educational work with Harcourt. One of my favorite Readers was this one about a pet hen named Jess. This assignment had significant meaning to me.

A) It was my first educational book assignment.
B) I got the call on my birthday.
C) "Jess" is my oldest son's name.

The only bummer is that I didn't receive a copy of the final book and have had no luck finding it on their website. Drat.
Here are the illustrations at least...

Hi roz! I love this. It's truly amazing how you handle the felt.. Love the colors...that soft bue with the deep red of the barn. And the girl hen or chicken is too cute. Whats that she's got hanging on her neck?

Hi Alicia,

Thanks so much!
Hanging off the neck is supposed to be a dented bell.
This was a phonics book dealing with the soft "e" sound.
bell, jess etc.

"My Pet Jess" is so cute, Roz. I'm not sure if the 2nd grade books have come out yet, but you can contact Harcourt to get a copy. I've seen the books for K-1 and they turned out great. I had no idea about the 3 special facts - glad we were able to work together.

Thanks Debbie, how great to "see" you!
I'll give contacting Harcourt directly a try.
