what is your favorite medium to work in?
My favorite medium? Do I have to pick just one? How many favorites can I have? 3? 10? 50? Just call me Johnny Rocco....
Quote from the movie Key Largo (1948)
Frank: Tell him, Rocco.
Rocco: Well, I want uh ...
Frank: He wants more, don't you, Rocco?
Rocco: Yeah. That's it. More. That's right! I want more!
James: Will you ever get enough?
Frank: Will you, Rocco?
Rocco: Well, I never have. No, I guess I won't.
Yes, I'm greedy!! :) My primary mediums right now are pencils, all kinds of paper, and my computer. But I'm always playing with other mediums - paints, oil pastels, crayons, scraps, wood, tools, collage, canvas... more, I want more! (hee hee) I just love getting busy and trying out things. Sometimes I even end up with a keeper. Always I have fun.

What is your favorite medium to work in?
Gouache! I still fight with it all the time - like when I'm trying to create a gradient or transition and it's just not happening... but overall, my whole style changed when I started using gouache. I love how flat and rich the colors are. I love how the medium forces me to plan colors ahead of time and not overwork the illustration. I love how I can be really lazy and leave my palette and brushes uncleaned and not risk ruining anything. I love how it holds really fine details and has a creamy soft consistency when wet. Oh, and I love using my husband's old Nestle's Quik cups for my water.
