OwlKids Celebration Week: Why?

Let's face it. Despite being grown-ups, few of us can really answer the many "Why?'s" of small children. Whether you are a parent, teacher, or caregiver, it can be frustrating but also exciting. Grown-ups are huge part of children's reading life. And if when we're captivated by the content, the kids follow suit.

That's partly why I love this reference book, "Why?". This 10th Anniversary edition gives answers to questions from nature, food, home, the body, and more. There is a nice narrative thread in each spread, with charming characters and settings. The answers, however, are in the inset boxes. Do you know why a bird doesn't fall from a branch? I'll admit that I didn't until I read this book.

Likewise, I've always wondered about the trails from planes. I assumed they were water vapor, but AHAH, they are made up of ice! See. When YOU are excited, your little ones will be too.
This book, and the one tomorrow are must-own references for your library. Understanding the world around us is such a big part of learning, and "Why?" does that in a fun and approachable way. Stay tuned for tomorrow's post and be sure to post a comment for a chance to win all 5 books from this week's celebration.

I can't get enough of books on why things happen. I learn from them right along with my kids!

"Why?" is a favourite question that my seven year-old son continually asks me and my husband. We scramble for the most appropriate answers that we can find, and laugh at our own ineptitude sometimes in doing so. It becomes a learning experience for all of us, not just my son or my daughter. An excellent idea of a book.

Every single sentence that comes out of my mouth is followed up with a "Why?" from my son. But even without the incessant why questions, I think I'd just like to read this book myself!

Et moi : "Pourquoi, je ne vous laisse presque jamais de commentaire, alors que je vous visite dès que je peux ???"...
Je vous souhaite de très joyeuses fêtes et une douce nuit de noël à vous et tous ceux que vous aimez.
Gros bisous

I really needed this book a week ago. My daughter 4 has been asking a ton of questions about this sky and this would really help answer them.
