"What I Am Working On" Week at the PBJ's....

Good Monday morning to you all! Us PBJ's have decided to do a few upcoming THEME WEEKS. These are always fun. They keep us on our toes* and allow us to share with you in a more focused and structured way. I'm excited about it! This week is "WHAT I AM WORKING ON" Week, and the upcoming theme weeks will be announced in good order.
*Hello, note my PBJ blog absence the past couple weeks!

So... What am I working on this week?
Well this is a good segueway... as you may (or may not) know, for the past year or so I have moved into Art Licensing as my primary focus, and, over time I have chosen to make it my MAIN focus. My work is still largely focused on children's markets, and I am still ♥in love♥ with children's books and children's art of course. So I want to assure you all that my passion about our blog's subject knows no bounds. But I did want to officially point this out, for the sake of transparency.

Ok... one more time... so WHAT am I working on this week??
I am working on a new art licensing collection, it is geared to juvenile/tween girls... it is adorable, unique and charming and I hope you love it when at some point in the future, I have the glory of posting here about the art debuting on product! But alas, I can't post any of the art here right now.... BUT, Inspiration is very important to the creative process—recharging our creative juices by enjoying nature, getting exercise, going to shops, bookstores and hello, museums - is so important. So, as an indirect "what I am working on this week", I am going to tell you about this art show I will be attending this weekend!

Elegant Enigmas: The Art of Edward Gorey
will be up at the Boston Athenaeum from Feb. 9 - June 4, 2011. Opening reception is this Tuesday evening February 15 and anyone can attend it, it is free to the public. (The regular suggested entrance fee is a measly $5 bucks. Small price to pay for such a wild dose of inspiration, eh?)  The show displays over 150 drawings that Gorey made between 1953 and 2006 for his books, plus sketchbooks and the like. I'm really looking forward to it! If you are in or around the Boston area, think about it! It will be quite the visual feast! Since next week will be a theme week here on the PBJ's (topic announced soon), I may post a review of the show over on my blog at some point next week.

And HEY, if you happened to be in Massachusetts and wanted to do a whole Edward Gorey tour day, The Edward Gorey House is also in the area, located in Yarmouth Port, MA. The Edward Gorey House the actual home he lived in. From their web site: "Featuring exhibits of Gorey's professional work, personal life and legacy of supporting animal welfare causes, the Gorey House is a glimpse into the mind and life of one of America's truly great creative geniuses." How can it be that I've never visited? I have to plan a day trip!

Well first, you have me very intrigued about a collection inspired by Gorey - given your linework, I think that could be quite awesome. And thank you for posting about the show - I will do my best to go see it, I haven't seen an exhibit of his since visiting his house (you MUST go Kathy! in warmer months of course).
