The wonderful Eric Carle

I love discovering interviews of children's illustrators and writers. I found this and thought I would share it with you.

Eric Carl is an adorable man. As I'm sure you all know, he's the illustrator behind famous titles like The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Brown Bear, Brown Bear. Just listen to him speak about his collage technique and his passion for color.

Loved to hear him talk about his childhood too and how he had envisioned what being an adult would be like. I also enjoyed how Bill found a "rhythm" for the book before the actual words.

I find that I like his voice and the way he talks about books, there's a passionate yet soothing tone to it.

Hope you enjoy them. :o)

He is so interesting! Thanks for sharing this. If you haven't been to the Eric Carle Museum in Mass. and you get a chance, definitely go! I spent hours there just absorbed in the world of books and learning about his life. And the coolest part, their library is organized by the illustrator's name!!

Great interview Ali. I had to go get my copy of The Very Quiet Cricket off my bookshelf and read it again. Fun envisioning Eric slaping paint all over the paper and cuting out all those beautiful insects. Nice post!

Those were lovely Ali, thank you! I never take the time to watch/listen to interviews like that but I'm so glad I did. He IS very soothing. I didn't realize he was retiring from books? Just so hypnotizing to watch him work, too. Perhaps I'll make it out to his museum again this year. Last time, his wing was closed and I would have loved to see those rich layers of paint and glue and paper.

He is so talented and so kind. I am thrilled I got to meet him at the Opening of his museum and again when I was there with a friend. I have a beautiful poster from the Museum framed in my kitchen and signed by Eric Carle, it is a treasure. Thanks for sharing these clips.

Thanks for the tip on his museum Woody. If I'm ever in Mass, I'll make sure to stop by. Oh my.. a library organized by illustrators? Sounds dreamy.. :o)

Glad you enjoyed it Rozzie. I could too. :o)

I know Deb. I love watching how he punched two holes to make brown bear's eyes and with those same circles he made his ears.

I didn't know that either Gina and found it surprising when he mentioned that at the end. Is sad to hear him say that don't you think? But he's had a long career and maybe he thinks is time.

Hi Laura, that is so cool that you got to meet him! Something to always remember for sure. :o)
