my dream picture book assignment...

...would be a story about this little girl. I drew her a while back and every time I revisit this drawing it raises more questions than answers. Questions like... where did she go in the rain? And it must be cold out too, she was wearing her scarf and coat... hmmmm... her purse is hanging there, did she buy those cookies? Or does she keep her house key in her purse? Did she make that pot of tea? And where is her mother??? So, I guess my favorite picture book assignment would be finding out how this story ends. :)

You know Patty, I fell in love with this illustration the first time i saw it.... It is brilliant! That little girl is too much for words, everything, how delicate she is by the way she is sipping that cup of tea, and her socks.. even her socks are adorable! How do you manage to make socks adorable??

This is a gorgeous piece and I too would love to read a story about her and see the whole book illustrated like this.. by you :o)

I love this illustration, Patrice! So incredibly sweet. You must be extra nice in real life too. I could look at all the details for hours, and think about the same questions you raised. Someone once told me that is exactly what each illustration should do - make you wonder what happened before, what happened after, and be amazed at all the little details in the now. That's one of the many reasons you're so great at doing what you do! Love it!!! Deb

Thank you so much, Ali and Deb!

Ali, doesn't it seem like socks refuse to stay put on children? Almost like they have one of those repelling magnetic force things happening. Hee hee

Deb, your kind words are very much appreciated! That's a lovely explanation about illustrations too. Definitely one I'll keep in mind! :)

This is one of my favorites of yours, Patty. There is a story just waiting to be told and it would be so lovely to have a complete book with this delightful style! I'd snap it up in a heartbeat.
