Marketing Tales

Currently, promotional postcards are my biggest marketing tool. The above was my third card last year since I started sending them, but the first to get me book and magazine illustration work! Even though I felt like I was taking a big risk by NOT showing kids (or even animals) it felt uniquely me in both the humor and content. The idea came to me probably 6 months earlier, and sat as a scribble on a sticky-note on my desk until I decided I just HAD to work on it. At the end of the day, you are selling your unique style and point of view - and that can be the key to getting noticed!

I love this image of yours Gina. I remember the first time I saw it I thought it was wonderful and unique... Those monsters have such personalities and the color scheme is so perfect too. No wonder it got people's attention! Great work Gina! :o)

Beautiful work, Gina! Great design, great story, great characters. No wonder they noticed! I just love your monsters. They're inviting, cute, and just spooky enough. I love the exasperated look on the monster with bangs who's watching the one eyed octopus. Maybe he's thinking, "Just because she has 8 arms doesn't mean she should take 8 sandwiches. sheesh!" hee hee!

Gina, your monsters are too fun. I love the humor you infused in this illustration. I hope you do more. You know what they say...create pieces that you'd like to illustrate in a book!
