I sketch a lot during the first phase of an assignment. I tend to think on paper, so I generate a lot of roughs. I've finally learned to throw away the scribbles I don't use. No more confusing piles of sketches stacked up everywhere. Now I consolidate the important stuff and toss everything else.

To track my deadlines, like Laura, I use my Mac's iCal program. I print out the months too... so I can panic at a glance.
